Gary Courtney

Gary Courtney, 81, of Crest Hill, Illinois, passed away suddenly on June 9, 2021. Gary was born on April 17, 1940, in Kankakee, IL. He attended St. Pat's Central High School (later known as Bishop McNamara High School) in Kankakee. He then went on to serve in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Shangri-La. Gary loved golf, and for several years participated in a weekly golf league. He also loved baseball and was a lifelong, avid New York Yankees fan. Gary went on to a 22-year career with Roper Corporation of Kankakee. After relocating to Joliet, Gary enjoyed many years working for Cub Foods and Sam's Club until his retirement.
Gary, and the love of his life, Sylvia (née Romashko), were married on November 16, 1963, at St. Michael's Catholic Church (Lithuanian) in Chicago, IL. He is also survived by two wonderful sons, Sean (Lisa) Courtney, of Chicago, IL, and Scott (Vicki) Courtney, of Pataskala, OH. He was a loving grandfather to Alannah Courtney of Plainfield, IL. He was uncle to several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jay Courtney.
